SMIT students clash over ragging, several injured

Berhampur (Orissa): Tension flared up in the campus of the Sanjay Memorial Institute of Technology (SMIT) Ankushpur after a major clash between the senior and junior students tool place on Tuesday in which several have been injured and were admitted in the medical.

Accordinmg to the sources, there was tension on Monday as some hostel inmates of the SMIT had ragged some local students in the campus, following which a confrontation had taken place between the juniors and the seniors.

Following the incident some senior students had attacked the junior in the hostel. As a result of which hundreds of students of SMIT had gheraoed the Sadar Police station on Tuesday morning seeking action and protection in the campus.

After the students gheraoed police station, had gone to the campus in order to settle the matter.

When the students reached at the campus, angry seniors came in groups while the juniors were also in a mood to confront with them. Following which a violent clash took place between the students, particularly the hostel inmates and local students.

Several students have been injured in the clash and as many as three students had been admitted in the MKCG Medical College in the city.

Source added that the students even had used swords in the attack on Tuesday.

Tension still grips the SMIT campus after the clash took place over the ragging issue and the management was trying to settle the dispute.
