College students in Chhattisgarh suspended for ragging juniors

Raipur, Jan 10 (IANS) Fourteen students at a college in the city were Saturday suspended by the authorities, a day after the police registered a case against them for ragging their juniors throughout the night.
Government Science College principal Geeta Tiwari called a meeting of the college's anti-ragging committee, which decided to suspend the 14 students, who are on the run since they slapped 14 juniors about 90 times one by one in the institute's Shastri hostel Wednesday night.
A complaint was lodged at the local police station by the 14 first year students, whose faces swelled up due to the beating. It took the freshers two days to muster up courage to make the complaint.
Tiwari told reporters that the college administration was surprised that juniors were ragged in the college hostel and said that she would teach a lesson to the students who brought a bad name to the college.
Meanwhile, city police chief Lal Umed Singh Saturday said that police would soon arrest all the absconding students.
