KURNOOL: Ragging has claimed yet another life in Kurnool district. Eighteen-year- old S Harish Kumar, a Polytechnic student who had attempted suicide by consuming an acid in August this year, died at his home at Nandyal last night.
Harish, who got a seat in civil engineering branch at the Government Polytechnic (Boys) College at Anantapur, drank acid after he had allegedly been tortured by his seniors. Unable to withstand the humiliation, he left for his home town and resorted to the extreme step on August 25. In his suicide note, Harish alleged that he had been harassed by four seniors in his room at Bhairavanagar Colony in Anantapur.
He was admitted to a corporate hospital in the town initially and shifted later to Hyderabad. After discharge, he was taken home at Chand Basha Nagar in Nandyal.
As the acid he consumed ate away most of his inner organs he had been put on a liquid diet for the past two months. His condition deteriorated yesterday and his parents decided to shift him to Hyderabad this morning. But he died last night itself.

Though his aunt Subhadra lodged a complaint with Anantapur I Town police against the four senior students, the Anantapur police arrested only one, Ananta Reddy. He was enlarged on bail and was dismissed from the college. College principal P Chandrasekhar said the incident had taken place outside the college and the management was not responsible.
