AJMER: A newcomer in the Regional Education Institute was ragged so severely by a senior that he left the session after a few days of joining. Parents of the victim reported the matter to college administration but no action was taken.
 The victim then made a complaint to the national cell of HRD ministry with a recording on his mobile phone. On the instructions of the ministry, the institute on Tuesday initiated action and expelled the accused from the hostel.

 The Regional Education Institute is running a programme of BSc BEd wherein students from all over the country apply to get admission. The institute is run by NCERT. According to sources, a boy from Haryana took admission in the institute and was allotted a hostel here. Third year student Dharmraj Meena called the boy on phone and ragged him. "He is the leader of seniors and humiliated me so much that it was not possible for me to study there," said the victim in his complaint. The boy narrated the incident to his parents who rushed to Ajmer and talked to the principal but they got no response. The victim then left the institute and filed a complaint with the national cell of HRD ministry.

 Ministry forwarded the complaint with serious remarks to the NCERT, directing them to investigate the matter. Sources say that if ragging incidents are reported in any educational institute, the institute has to lodge FIR against the accused. Looking to the seriousness of charges, the NCERT instructed the institute to take action in the matter.

 On Monday, principal of the institute V K Kakaria called a meeting of the anti-ragging committee, "The committee led by dean is looking into the matter. There are serious charges of ragging. We have identified the accused senior," said Kakaria. Sources said that the committee asked the accused to leave the hostel immediately. "There is a recording of ragging of the victim by the senior and, therefore, we do not need to investigate much," said an official.

Despite stringent laws, it seems, there is no fear among students who openly and fearlessly rag new students. Cracking the whip on senior students, the anti-ragging and disciplinary committee of the MBM Engineering College, Jodhpur suspended eight students on Friday for allegedly ragging freshers. The college administration is also searching for other students involved in ragging. Notably, senior students ragged a few newcomers on August 27 (Monday) near the Swarn Jayanti Park.

During ragging, a team of reporters reached the spot and published a report in newspapers the next day. On this, vice-chancellor Prof BS Rajpurohit ordered an inquiry into the matter and action against the mischief students. Later, on Thursday, in the meeting of college administration it was decided that five hostellers and three general students should be suspended for ragging freshers in Swarn Jayanti Park.

 On Friday, chief proctor Prof Bhimsingh Chauhan taking strict action against them ordered to suspend the students who were allegedly involved in ragging juniors. “We have ordered suspension of eight the students. Further action will be taken after the inquiry is done,” said Prof Bhimsingh Chauhan. Meanwhile, those suspended for ragging newcomers in the hostel premises include Chetan Sharma, Ankur Innani, Vinay Agarwal, Nikhil Goyal and Kashish Garg. Likewise, three others suspended for ragging near the Swarn Jayanti Park are Kapil Dev Singhal, Sanjay Kumar Saraswat and Vinay Agarwal.

Jaipur: Student killed for ragging junior on Amity campus

Jaipur: A 3rd year engineering student, Prashant Veer Singh, was allegedly stabbed to death by his juniors at the Amity University, Jaipur, in what police now claim to be a case of revenge killing over ragging. The police arrested seven students of the Amity University in the case late on Tuesday night.

Puneet Dalal, enrolled in the 1st year in Amity University happens to be the grandson of Karan Singh Dalal, former MLA from Palwal constituency, in Haryana. Puneet allegedly stabbed Prashant to death in the presence of law stream students Chiraj Chotwani, Rahul Singh, Abhimanyu Yadav, Anurag Sethi, Gaurav Yadav and Ajay Singh, late on Tuesday night. "We have arrested themain accused and they are being interrogated," additional superintendent of police (rural), Vineet Kumar Bansal, said.

According to the initial probe, Prashant allegedly ragged Puneet on Tuesday noon. “From what we have gathered, he had slapped Puneet the same afternoon,” an investigating official said. Sources said that Puneet decided to settle scores with his senior and arranged a meeting with Prashant at a nearby tea stall the same night on the pretext of having tea, police said. The official said that four students, accused for murder, were already waiting for Prashant at the tea stall outside the campus where the victim was seated alone.

A few moments later Puneet accompanied by three more students came to the stall where he reportedly stabbed Prashant to death. Police suspect Prashant was beaten up before he was killed because of the head injuries.

Prashant's friends told police that they tried to help him when he was being attacked, but claimed that the guards did not open the gate. Prashant was rushed to NIIMS hospital where he died while undergoing treatment. A police official said that Prashant was suspended from the hostel for a year on charges of indiscipline by the college management.

Medical student suspended for ragging

Jaipur, Jan 3 (IANS) A senior medical college student was suspended in Rajasthan after some junior students accused him and his friends of ragging, an official said Tuesday.

The alleged ragging took place in Jhalawar Medical College late Monday.

“Some fourth year MBBS students have been accused of harassing seven junior students in the college hostel,” a college official told IANS.

The junior students alleged that they were asked to follow some commands and were beaten up when some of them refused to do so.

“They say that they were even slapped and made to stand out in the open in the cold night,” said the official.

He added that a student, Amrit Meena, has been suspended. “An enquiry against other senior students has been taken up by the college’s disciplinary committee,” said the official.

Cases of ragging at educational institutes in Rajasthan come up from time to time despite strict Supreme Court directives against the practice.

Last September, criminal cases were slapped against five students of Mohanlal Sukhadia University in Udaipur after a first-year Bachelor of Science student went into depression after he was ragged.

In the same month, 16 students were booked for ragging an engineering student in Jodhpur’s Jai Narain Vyas University. In another ragging case on Sep 8, a 19-year-old girl was allegedly ragged by her seniors at a private engineering college at Bhankrota in Jaipur.
This caused her to fall from the fourth floor of her college hostel and she died in SMS Hospital in Jaipur.

Keeping in view the increasing number of ragging incidents in Rajasthan, some universities have made it mandatory for all the students to sign an affidavit during admissions stating that they would not indulge in any ragging-related activities.

Acting on Supreme Court directives, some higher education institutions have equipped themselves with CCTV cameras and asked the student counsellors to check ragging activities. However, many colleges have failed to comply with the norms.

Five students booked for ragging in Rajasthan

Jaipur: Criminal cases were slapped against five students of a university in Udaipur on Friday after a first-year Bachelor of Science (BSc) student went into depression after he was ragged, police said.

Mohanlal Sukhadia University's student Sanjay Chauhan alleged he was made to stand in unusual postures and thrashed severely by his seniors when he protested. He claimed that he was "harassed physically and mentally".

The varsity authorities have also issued notices to the accused students and referred the matter to the university's disciplinary committee.

Police said the incident took place at the university's Science College in Udaipur Thursday, 400 km from here.

Chauhan alleged in his police complaint that Harish Kapaliya, Hemant Raigar, Ankit Paliwal, Arvind and Saurabh Choudhary thrashed him severely when he tried to protest the ragging.

A police officer told IANS: "We have lodged a first information report for wrongful restraint and voluntarily causing hurt."

The incident comes close on the heels of a ragging incident in Jodhpur's Jai Narain Vyas University where 16 students were booked for ragging an engineering student Monday.

HC takes self motivated cognizance, issues notices to JNVU, MBM College dean over ragging

Jodhpur: Taking self-motivated cognizance of the Bhaskar report on MBM College ragging incident, Rajasthan High Court has summoned response from the varsity and college dean.

Justice Gopal Krishna Vyas has issued show cause notices and demanded response from Jai Narayan Vyas University (JNVU) and MBM College dean.

Kamal Meena had complained to the hostel authorities in MBM College that his son Shailendra Meena, was tortured in the name of ragging on September 15. The student was so terrified by the incident that he left college and went back to his home in Jaipur the very next day. Shailendra is a first year student of engineering.

It must be noted that the hostel administration had suspended 15 students before Kamal filed his complaint.

Ragging victim falls from 4th floor, dies of injuries at SMS Hospital

JAIPUR: A 19-year-old girl was allegedly ragged by her seniors at a private engineering college at Bhankrota here. This caused her to fall from the fourth floor of her college hostel and she died in SMS Hospital on Thursday night. Her father has lodged an FIR alleging the college authorities were attempting to hush up the matter. However, the police claimed they were waiting the postmortem report.

A resident of Patna, Somya Singh was a first year B-Tech student at the Rajasthan College of Engineering for Women, Bhankrota on Jaipur-Ajmer Highway in Jaipur district.

"Her father, Mithilesh Kumar Singh, has lodged an FIR saying two senior girls had forced her to walk on the fourth floor railing of her hostel twice within three days. Singh claimed that his daughter fell during the second attempt," said Sharad Kaviraj, DCP (West).

However, chief hostel warden Shalini Jain claimed no family member had complained about the ragging in the past. "No ragging took place in the hostel," she added.

As per the FIR, two senior girls barged into her hostel room on September 3 and said she would be ragged as she was a new student. Somya had joined the college on August 26.

"She was made to walk on the railing by the seniors. She got scared and called up her aunt and brother living in Jaipur and the father who lives in Patna. Somya also informed the hostel warden Manju, her younger sister Tulika, brother Sushil and a senior girl of the college Tapsi," the FIR says.

The FIR further says her aunt came to the hostel on September 4 and tried to contact Manju, but she was told that she is on leave. "The aunt then complained to someone about the ragging," the FIR states.

It has also been alleged in the FIR that the two unidentified senior girls again came to the hostel room on September 6 and made her walk on the railing. This time she fell and lay on the ground for half an hour.

The girl's father Mithilesh Singh told TOI that while her injured daughter was rushed to the hospital, a college teacher threatened Somya's sister Tulika and told her not to complain about ragging.

"Tulika was threatened that she and her sister will study in the college for four years suggesting that their future will be ruined," the father alleged.

DCP Sharad Kaviraj said, "A postmortem has been conducted and the report is expected on Saturday."

Family members alleged that in the past three days since Somya fell from the fourth floor of the hostel, police have neither done any investigation nor record statements of the college authorities concerned.

Medical student injured in attack by senior

JAIPUR: An MBBS student at MBS Medical College in Kota was seriously injured when a senior resident doctor attacked him with an iron pipe when he refused to obey his commands . The victim is undergoing treatment at the same hospital with both his hands fractured. The accused is on the run.

Police said that accused wanted the student to put his plate in the sink after they had dinner at the hostel mess five days ago. The junior student refused to follow the command . Irked over this, the senior barged into his hostel room in the wee hours of Sunday and attacked him. The medical college administration claimed that it was not a ragging incident, but the police have not ruled out the possibility.

According to the police , the accused, Dr Vikram Choudhary, a PG intern, had a fight with first year MBBS student, Dinesh Kumar Yadav five days ago.

"We have taken the statement of Dinesh. He says that they both had dinner. Vikram asked Dinesh to put his plates in the sink which he refused. Both had a verbal fight over this. It seems Vikram wanted to take revenge over this," said investigating officer Brijprakash .

Around 3 am on Sunday , Vikram knocked at the hostel room of Dinesh. "As soon as he opened the door, Vikram attacked him with an iron pipe," said the officer. Vikram hit him repeatedly and ran away. Dinesh was admitted to MBS Hospital.

Juniors file complaint against seniors, get thrashed

Jaipur: Day scholars of a private university were allegedly beaten up on Thursday by the hostellers angry over an FIR registered a day before at the police station in Chaksu.

A BTech second year student had lodged an FIR on Wednesday against his seniors for allegedly beating him and his classmates on way to the varsity for their annual examination.

Ajay Chaudhary, a BTech 2nd year student of Jagannath University said, "I was about to enter the examination hall on Wednesday when a group of seniors came and started beating me up. I rushed to the police station to lodge an FIR against the seniors but neither the police nor university administration took any action. The group of seniors returned on Thursday to take revenge and brutally beat up my classmates too.” Chaudhary received a fracture in his left hand while three were seriously injured.

Student leaders of Rajasthan University have now decided to protest against the hostility of police and the university administration. Amit Sharma, a student leader of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) said, "The hostellers in the university demand money from juniors and beat those who deny it. Instead of taking action against the hostellers, the university administration and police tried to suppress the matter. We have decided to block all university buses on Friday morning.” The ABVP activists also approached the police commissioner.

Meanwhile, police claim that the incident was only a sort of students' clash and denied any possibility of ragging. "We have registered the FIR lodged by Ajay Chaudhary. We will take action after proper investigation," said Rajendra Singh Shekhawat, SHO, Chaksu police station.

Three students of the National Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) have been booked for ragging, thrashing and robbing another student. Mahesh Tanwar, 21, a second year dental student, was beaten up on Wednesday by Navneet Singh, a third year dental student, Shobhit Kashwa, fourth year dental student and Saurabh Srivastava, fourth year medical student, at the institute located at Chandwaji on the Delhi-Jaipur highway.
“The students forcibly took Rs400 and a gold chain from Tanwar,” said a police officer. Tanwar’s father, Rajendra Singh Tanwar, had filed the complaint late on Wednesday evening, said Hari Ram Kumawat, station house officer of Chandwaji police station. According to the complaint, around 5 pm on Wednesday, the accused students had gone to Tanwar’s room at the E Block hostel of NIMS and demanded money to buy liquor.

When Tanwar refused to pay them, they stripped him and began beating him up with a leather belt, said Kumawat.

“Since Kashwa was a final year student, no hosteller dared to interrupt. Finally they robbed him.” A medical test has been conducted on Tanwar at the Chandwa Ji Rajkiya Prathmik Swasthya Kendra. The NIMS authorities were unavailable for comment.

Last month, 14 students of Vivekananda Institute of Technology (VIT), Jagatpura, were booked for ragging. Another incident of ragging was reported from Gyan Vihar College last month.

Schoolboy commits suicide in Rajasthan due to ragging by peers

A seventh standard student allegedly committed suicide in a local school hostel here last evening allegedly due to ragging by four other students, a police spokesman said.


The death came to light when Murli Sharma, 13, of nearby Aama village did not turn up in the hostel mess for dinner last evening.


His room was found closed and he did not respond to calls by the staff and students. When the door was forced open, the boy found hanging


In his suicide note, Murli had written that a group of four students had assaulted and stripped him naked.


His father alleged that his son's death was a case of ragging. However, the students involved in the incident maintained that they did not intend to rag but only wanted to punish him as he had alone spent entire money provided to them for picnic by the school.

Two MNIT students thrashed by seniors

JAIPUR: Two ragging incidents were reported in Rajasthan on Thursday one in the state capital Jaipur and another in Kota. While in Jaipur, the police have received a complaint against a group of students for beating up the juniors, the police in Kota were investigating charges made by an engineering student that he was ragged.

According to Jaipur police, a group of students from Malviya National Institute of Technology ( MNIT) allegedly thrashed two junior students from the same college with belts and helmets late on Wednesday night. The provocation was the two students had objected to an "abusive'' ragging session.

The victims, Shivram Meena and Lokesh Meena, are third year BTech students. According to police, both were returning to the hostel when seniors allegedly stopped them and started abusing them. The two in their statement to the police alleged they didn't follow the seniors' instructions and were beaten up.

"When the juniors objected, the group started hitting the two with belts and helmets resulting in head injuries,'' said a police officer. The two students were rushed to SMS Hospital by the police when they were informed by other students. A medical examination confirmed injuries.

The family members of the two arrived at the Malviya Nagar police station on Thursday morning and alleged the police were not doing enough to act against the seniors. The police, on the other hand, said the incident was a result of enmity between two groups. However, police have lodged an FIR against 10 students, who are on the run.

Meanwhile, Anshul Swadhin (19), a first year student of engineering college in Ranpur area in Kota, alleged that while he was sitting in the college canteen, a few senior students started ragging himm. The Kota police is verifying the allegation.

Kota (Rajasthan), Sep 9 (IANS) A Gujarat youth studying at a private engineering college here has been hospitalised for depression after he was harassed and not allowed to sleep for two nights by seniors at a hostel, says his father who has complained to police of ragging.
A case has been registered against three students of the college, police said Thursday.

Rahul Sharma, who is from Vadodra, has taken admission to the R.N. Modi Engineering College only six days back. The complaint was made Wednesday.

“After taking admission in the college, we got him a room at Modi Hostel in Jawahar Nagar area of the city. It was in the hostel that he was mentally harassed and tortured and not allowed to sleep for at least two nights,” Rajkumar Sharma, Rahul’s father, said in the police complaint.

Sharma said as soon as he came to know about it, he rushed to Kota and complained about it to the college authorities. “After not getting a proper reply, we requested that he be allowed to leave the hostel.”

On Wednesday, Rahul started to cry and suddenly collapsed, his father alleged. He was admitted in a government hospital here. “He is not in a condition to talk to anyone,” Sharma said.

The hostel authorities said the father and son had come to them and were asked to file a complaint with the director. “However, they did not do so,” a college official said.

Police have started investigating the matter. “We have got the ragging complaint and have started to search for the accused students,” said a police official.

In April, the Rajasthan High Court while hearing a ragging case had asked the state government to deal with incidents of ragging with a firm hand. The court had also directed the government to enact an anti-ragging law in the state. It had observed that ragging is a serious issue and could not be dealt with only through anti-ragging orders passed by universities and colleges.

JAIPUR: Six students of a city-based hotel management institute were arrested on Tuesday for allegedly creating a ruckus in Bani Park police station after they were summoned there following a complaint of ragging.

According to the police, a first year student of Institute of Hotel Management (IHM), Krishna Varma, approached the police claiming that six students of second and third year were harassing him. Varma and the seniors are staying in the institute's hostel on Sikar Road in Bani Park.

"Six students — Vipin Malik, Tarun Jodh Singh, Ishan Rajoria, Dilip Chauhan, Vipin Kishore and Pratik Kumar — used to harass Varma," said Ashok Chauhan, incharge of Bani Park police station.

"They would go to his room and wake him up in the wee hours saying that he could not sleep without their permission. Then they would make him stand in unusual positions. The ragging continued for a week before the victim approached us on Monday," said Chauhan.

CO, Sadar, Bajrang Singh said that the six accused were summoned to the station. However, after reaching the station, Varma and the senior students picked up a fight in the station premises. The police then booked the six students under Section 151 of CrPC for disturbing peace.

Three engg students suspended for ragging

JAIPUR: Three engineering students of a private university were suspended on charges of ragging their juniors on Friday.They have been suspended for 10 days and debarred from appearing in the semester exam following an FIR filed by two juniors.

Two diploma students Shiv Dayal Chaudhary and Yogesh Sharma filed a police complaint against one Rather Singh Rathore and three others for physically assaulting them on the university campus on Friday.

They asked us to get a packet of cigarettes and snacks on Thursday.However,they didnt give us any money.On Friday,they again called us and asked us to get the same.When we refused,they said that they will strip us and make us dance in the academy hall, said Chaudhary.

They then started slapping us in the campus and threatened of dire consequences if we refuse to follow their instructions, the victims said.

The two soon rushed to the college proctors room but the proctor wasnt there.When seniors came to know that we went to the proctors room for making a complaint,they again beat us on the campus, said Sharma.They then went to the pro-vice-chancellors office who assured them of stringent action against the culprits.Furious by their move,the seniors again abused them.Finally,they filed a police complaint against the seniors.

Prima facie,it doesnt look to be a case of ragging,but still we are consulting the university officials to find out the exact issue, said the investigating officer. Meanwhile,the university had formed a committee to look into the matter.

It’s not a case of ragging.Its a simple dispute between two student groups, said Nirmal Panwar,vice-chancellor of the university.

6 seniors suspended for assaulting medical student

JAIPUR: Six students of a Sitapura-based private medical college were suspended on Tuesday for allegedly ragging and assaulting a junior on the campus. While five of the suspended are MBBS students, one is a BDS student. A case was also registered against them at the local police station.

According to Arun Sharma (20), a first year pharmacy student of Mahatma Gandhi Medical College, a group of MBBS students attacked him twice on Monday without any provocation. Arun had earlier complained to the college management about harassment by some seniors.

The suspended have been identified as Ashwini Choudhary, Chhote Lal Garhwal, Deepak Kundu, Rajesh Sharma, Ankur Kotewa (all MBBS students) and Sudhir Singh Jhakhar (BDS).

The victim was hospitalised for a short period on Monday evening and has since returned to his house. He is a resident of Sitapura area, whereas other students involved in the incident are mostly hostelers.

“The six suspended students have been asked to keep off the college campus till the inquiry is over,” said Dr Sudheer Sachdeva, CEO, MGM group. The college management had also written to police seeking action against them, he said. “We followed the case as per the anti-ragging guidelines of the Supreme Court,” he added.

Sachdeva said that as soon as Arun lodged a complaint with the college, the matter was handed over to the anti-ragging squad. “Arun identified six students during inquiry and realising the seriousness of the case, we took action against them,” he added.

Lalu, Paswan ask Gehlot to take action

Patna, Jan 6 (PTI) Condemning the alleged attack on Bihari students at a hostel of a private engineering college at Udaipur, the RJD and LJP today asked Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot to take immediate steps to bring the perpetrators to book. "It is a highly condemnable incident .

Biharis are unnecessarily being targetted in other parts of the country," RJD supremo Lalu Prasad said in a statement. He alleged that the students were not only subjected to "insult and torture" but were also assaulted with sticks when they reportedly protested against ragging at the college hostel.

"Instead of taking action against the perpetrators of ragging, Bihari students were sent behind the bars by the police," LJP chief Ramvilas Paswan alleged. Leader of the Opposition in Bihar and former chief minister Rabri Devi also condemned the incident and called for action against the perpetrators.

Students of Maharaja’s College allege ragging, lodge FIR

Two first-year students of Maharaja's College have registered FIR against a group of students following a clash on Friday. While the victims alleged the incident to be ragging, the police and the college authorities denied it.

"How can we call it ragging when all the students involved are from the same class? Rather it is a clash between two groups of students that not even happened inside the campus," said RV Singh, principal, Maharaja's College.

He said that the victims have lodged complaint with the police regarding the incident. The accused students are said to be inmates of the college's Gokhale Hostel. According to the officials at Lalkothi police station, where the complaint has been lodged, cases have been registered under section 323 and 341 of IPC.

"The victim Anil Devanda is a resident of Chaksu and had clashed with some hostellers of the same college and same class. We have registered the complaint and are carrying further investigations," said Rameshwar Dayal, sub inspector, Lalkothi police station.

According to the victim, the clash took place as the hostellers tried to teach him lessons on discipline.

Ragging: Six more SMS students held

JAIPUR: Six more students of SMS Medical College have been arrested in connection with the ragging incident in which 40 students were forcibly taken to a location and confined for over two hours.

The senior students- Rahul Chaudhary of Bharatpur, Raghvendra Chaubisa of Udaipur, Bhavesh Joshi of Pali, Praveen Sigadia of Sirohi, Rajesh Kumar of Jaipur rural and Chaina Ram of Nagaur- were arrested after they were identified by the victims during an identification parade. Police are questioning them to get details about the other students, who were also involved in the incident.

On Wednesday, nearly 18 senior students forcibly took 40 students in a city bus from college to a private house in Barkat Nagar locality, where they were asked to make an introduction.' However, when the brother of one of the junior students reported the matter to college administration, the college authorities lodged complaint at Moti Doongri police station.

SP (east) Biju George Joseph told TOI that after the arrest of six more students on Wednesday, the total arrests in the ragging case has reached eight. He also said that the arrested students have been sent to judicial custody of two weeks and police are making efforts to nab other students, who were involved in the act.

Meanwhile, the anti-ragging committee of SMS Medical College held a meeting to prepare the plan of action to prevent repetition of any such ragging incident in future. The committee also directed all departmental heads and senior faculty members to take required measured to check ragging by the senior students.

The college has already suspended 18 students for three months and barred them from entering college library and hostel mess while a case had been registered against them for kidnapping and wrongful confinement.

JAIPUR: The Sawai Maan Singh Medical College and Hospital here suspended 18 second year MBBS students for ragging their juniors, Principal Ashok Pangariya said.

Nearly 25 first year students were forcibly boarded on a bus and taken to Barkat Nagar by their seniors, Pangariya said and added that as soon as the matter came to the notice of the college administration, police and district administration were informed.

"A police team then raided the PG Hostels at Barkat Nagar and rescued the first year students, before they were ragged. 18 second year students were immediately suspended for three months on charges of ragging," said Ashok Pangariya.

Chief Warden of college hostel Dr H Pagariya said, "FIR has been lodged against two second year students, who have also been detained for questioning by the police."

Station House Officer, Moti Dhumri Narayan Tiwari, while confirming the arrest said, "Two second year students have been arrested and FIR lodged against them under section 341 of IPC. The students arrested are Deependra Yadav and Kamlesh Beniwal."
