Three IT-BHU pharma students face music for ragging

VARANASI: Now the axe of anti-ragging squad of the Banaras Hindu University has fallen over three BPharma/MPharma courses of the Institute of Technology as they have been debarred from classes for 15 days and also expelled from the hostel for the next three months. However, no varsity officials could disclose what the accused students had done in the name of ragging.

According to the press release, publication and publicity (PPP) cell of BHU, an incident of ragging was reported to have taken place at Limbdi Hostel of IT-BHU on August 9. After investigating the matter, the anti-ragging squad of the university and the anti-ragging sub-committee of the IT submitted their reports to the vice-chancellor. During their investigation, the squad and sub-committee authorities found Vineet Agrawal (BPharma Part-II), Rahul Kumar Jain (BPharma Part-II) and Rohit Gupta (IDD BPharma-MPharma Part-II) as guilty of ragging.

The official release stated that after considering the report, debarring the erring students from classes for 15 days and expelling them from the hostel for the next three months had been announced. However, when the anti-ragging squad chief Prof GS Yadav was contacted to know what those students had done in the name of ragging, he put the ball into the court of the PPP cell. The chairman of PPP cell expressed his inability to disclose the reason. Chief proctor Prof HCS Rathore, when contacted on phone, told to find out the reason from director IT-BHU Prof SN Upadhyaya, who could not be contacted despite repeated efforts.

Before this fresh episode, BHU administration had also initiated strict steps against 10 students of IT-BHU who were caught indulging in ragging of their juniors on Asi Ghat on July 29. The proctorial board and anti-ragging squad of varsity handed over the accused students to the Lanka police after lodging FIRs against them while they were also expelled them from hostels for a period of six months (one semester) and penalty of Rs 50,000 was also imposed on each of them. The police had released those students on July 30 on personal bonds.
