5 students suspended for ragging

United News of India Jorhat, Aug 18:

Five students of a premier college in upper Assam's Jorhat district were today suspended for 15 days from the college and hostel, four of whom were also arrested, after they were found involved in a ragging incident.

All the five students, who are boarders of the JB College boys' hostel, have been suspended with immediate effect from the college and hostel for 15 days, college sources said.

A three-member enquiry team has been formed by the college, which will submit its report within 10 days, and depending on the report, punishment would be decided, the sources added.
The students are Hrithik Bora, Budhin Dutta, Gyandeep Mesh, Ashish Phukan and Bhrighu Ranjan Barthakur. Barring Bhrighu, the other four students were arrested. They were later released on bail, though police interrogation was on.

A new boarder had complained before the college authorities and police that the five students had physically assaulted him and also tonsured his head.

The incident comes just five days after 10 students of Dibrugarh University in the state were handed down punishment for ragging.
