Kolkata The anti-ragging committee of Visva-Bharati University at Santiniketan has suggested the Vice-Chancellor to suspend two students of Kala Bhavan for their alleged involvement in ragging.

Srirup Sarkar and Somnath Das have been charged with ragging three first year students — Jyotirmoy Saha, Abhishek Mukherjee and Sheikh Gul Mohammed.

According to the sources, the incident took place on July 30. “According to the Supreme Court rules and the recommendations of the University Grants Commission, any student who is charged with ragging is suspended and then an inquiry committee is formed to give its report on the incident,” said a member of the anti-ragging committee of the university.

The vice-chancellor is yet to give the consent on suspending the students as the university was closed on Wednesday. Both the accused have said that they are not guilty as it was not an act of ragging on their part.
