Hyderabad: Student suffers eye injury in ragging

HYDERABAD: A first-year engineering student of a private college at Medchal on the city outskirts suffered injuries in his right eye, in an alleged ragging incident, after his seniors thrashed him, police said today.
The injured student B Kiran Kumar, a student of V Malla Reddy College of Engineering at Kistapur in Medchal mandal, in a complaint lodged with the police alleging that he was ragged by two of his seniors Bhim Rao and Ajay B Y, both second-year students of the college, they said.
Kumar alleged that the duo asked him to keep a measuring scale in the pocket of a girl student's trousers while she was passing besides them in the college premises yesterday, but when he did not comply, the seniors picked up a quarrel and beat him up resulting in injuries in right-eye, Medchal Inspector of Police V Yadagiri Reddy, who is investigating the case told PTI.
A case has been registered following the complaint, but the senior students were still to be arrested, the police officer said adding that police had counselled the seniors of the college on not to indulge in ragging after the academic year had started two months ago.
