SINDRI: BIT Sindri, the only government engineering college in Jharkhand, is on boil after a first-year student's father alleged that his son was ragged and assaulted by seniors. While BIT administration is yet to probe the matter, All India Council for Technical Education () has shot off a letter to the institute asking what action it has taken in this regard.

Despite the administration's attempts to make the institute ragging-free, a group of second-year students on Wednesday demonstrated in front of the administrative building, demanding withdrawal of punitive action against two students charged with ragging.

In a letter to the Jharkhand governor, a resident of Bokaro alleged his son was badly thrashed by his seniors. Fearing a backlash from seniors the man requested the governor not to disclose his name. The letter alleged the first-year students were living under constant fear as seniors kept on assaulting and humiliating them.

It alleged the seniors badly thrashed another student in the presence of a teacher. The student now has hearing problem, he wrote. He accused the BIT administration of not taking action against the culprits. He requested the governor to take action against the institute.

Meanwhile, the eastern regional office of AICTE threatened to take stern action against the institute if it failed in submitting a report in this connection. Institute's general warden G Kumar said all efforts to identify the miscreants had failed.
