2 brutally ragged, decide to discontinue study

United News of India

Thiruvananthapuram, Oct 11:

In another case of brutal ragging, two first-year students of Nehru College of Aeronautics and Applied Sciences, Coimbatore, were allegedly thrashed and punched in their eyes by a gang of senior students.
Addressing a press conference here, the parents of Aswajith Ashok and Bilal Muhamed, hailing from here, said the students were allegedly ragged by ''Kovaiputhoorans,'' a gang of 'Malayali' students in the college.
Though the incident took place on the eve of September 29, it came to light only a few days ago when the students told their parents that they were not willing to continue their studies, fearing threat to their lives.
After the incident, the students underwent treatment at a private hospital in Coimbatore and left for their native places.
''Now, they are undergoing treatment at the Poojappura Ayurveda Research Centre here,'' the parents said.
Though the college received complaints from the parents in this regard, the management discouraged them from filing criminal cases against the culprits, fearing more problems, they alleged.
