JAIPUR: Six more students of SMS Medical College have been arrested in connection with the ragging incident in which 40 students were forcibly taken to a location and confined for over two hours.
The senior students- Rahul Chaudhary of Bharatpur, Raghvendra Chaubisa of Udaipur, Bhavesh Joshi of Pali, Praveen Sigadia of Sirohi, Rajesh Kumar of Jaipur rural and Chaina Ram of Nagaur- were arrested after they were identified by the victims during an identification parade. Police are questioning them to get details about the other students, who were also involved in the incident.
On Wednesday, nearly 18 senior students forcibly took 40 students in a city bus from college to a private house in Barkat Nagar locality, where they were asked to make an introduction.' However, when the brother of one of the junior students reported the matter to college administration, the college authorities lodged complaint at Moti Doongri police station.
SP (east) Biju George Joseph told TOI that after the arrest of six more students on Wednesday, the total arrests in the ragging case has reached eight. He also said that the arrested students have been sent to judicial custody of two weeks and police are making efforts to nab other students, who were involved in the act.
Meanwhile, the anti-ragging committee of SMS Medical College held a meeting to prepare the plan of action to prevent repetition of any such ragging incident in future. The committee also directed all departmental heads and senior faculty members to take required measured to check ragging by the senior students.
The college has already suspended 18 students for three months and barred them from entering college library and hostel mess while a case had been registered against them for kidnapping and wrongful confinement.
