Two NID students expelled for ragging

Ahmedabad: National Institute of Design (NID) has expelled two students for allegedly ragging their hostel mate, officials said on Thursday. NID administration has also barred three others from entering hostel area for their alleged involvement in the incident.
“We had received a complaint on July 14 from a student studying in the first year undergraduate course that he was ragged by some of his fellow hostel-mates,” Registrar (academics), NID, Vijaya Deshmukh said. “Based on the complaint we formed a committee to probe the matter. Two students, one from textile design faculty and another from Film and Video faculty were found guilty and their academic programmes were terminated with immediate effect from yesterday,” Deshmukh said.
“We had also received a verbal complaint against three other students involved in the incident, who have been barred from entering the hostel campus,” she added.
“We are also planning to file a police complaint in this matter,” she added. She refused to divulge names and details of the students saying that “once the police complaint is lodged it will automatically become public, till then we don’t want to reveal their identity”. This act is likely to affect their career badly, as NID won’t take them back, she said.
