Kollam, Monday, December 01, 2008: A nursing student from NS Hospital at Palathara attempted suicide after senior students reportedly ragged her. According to eyewitness account the girl jumped off from the fifth floor of the hospital and now has been admitted to hospital in a critical condition. A tense situation persists here following the incident.
The Kerala Government had issued a series of tough guidelines against ragging in educational institutions, according to which a student found guilty of such practices was subject to strict criminal charges, which could lead upto two years imprisonment and a fine of Rs 10,000
