NIZAMABAD: A first year engineering student was allegedly ragged and beaten up by his senior at Vijaya Rural Engineering College on the outskirts of Nizamabad on Friday afternoon.

According to police, electronics and communication engineering student Ankar Ravi, 19, sustained injuries on his head and hand after second year student Sai Devi Khanna, 20, hit him with a duster as the former refused to `obey' him.

It all started when Khanna and four others prevented Ravi from going to the lab during lunch break around 1.30 pm. They started ragging him and asked him to `salute' them. When Ravi refused, Khanna abused him in filthy language and hit him.

Other students shifted Ravi to the government hospital and later a complaint was lodged with police. DSP G Raghava Reddy said they have registered a case against Khanna and four others.
