DESAM against student death case

Imphal, December 07 2010: The Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) in a press release asked the students and parents who are trying to put curtain over the issue of ragging in Jawaharlal Navodaya, Khumbong.

The release said that DESAM while investigating the issue came to know that some senior students are indulging in forceful homo sexual activities to some junior students against their consent.

The matter came to light when teachers of the vidyalaya found one Nanao (not real name) of Class VI in a very desperate state.

When enquired he told that one Pangambam Nelson s/o P Olen of Kongba Kshetri Leikai who is studying in class XI forcibly did homo sexual activity to him without his consent.

When House Master and some teachers advised the accused students, the students raised against the teachers and school authorities and made it a major issue.

Moreover parents of the students are also backing their children.

In relation with this matter, Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti, Shillong also terminated two teachers and restricted three teachers from entering the school campus.

If such situation begins to spread throughout the state, there will be no one in the state to take up the profession of teacher.

Regarding the need for timely intervention DESAM asked those parents who are backing their children to retreat.
