Lucknow, Sep 10 (IANS) Six students of a private engineering college have been detained for allegedly ragging a student in Uttar Pradesh’s Mathura district, police said Thursday. Police detained the six students, who are in their second year at Ganeshi Lal Narayandas Institute of Technology, Wednesday night for ragging Vikas Parashar, a first year student.

“We are probing into the matter along with officials of the college,” district police chief B.D. Paulson told IANS. “Strict action would be taken against the students if they are found guilty,” he said.

According to police, on the pretext of introducing freshers, the six used to force them to perform objectionable acts. They also used to assault their juniors who refused to act as per their instructions.

“The complaint against the six students were made by the parents of the junior students,” police inspector Surendra Kumar said.
