Dharamsala (HP), Sep 8 (PTI) In the first case of ragging after a law has come into force to check the menace, police have booked an MA student of government degree college here for committing the crime.
An FIR has been registered against the first year student -- Manoj Thakur -- on the basis of recommendation of the college, a police official said today.
This is the first case of ragging in the hill state after enactment of an Anti-ragging Act having stringent provisions like three-year jail or fine of Rs 50,000 or both.
Police are conducting raids to arrest the student, who is absconding, he said.
A first year BCom student -- Chandan -- had lodged a complaint on September 2 to the college authorities stating he was ragged by Thakur.
