ALLAHABAD: Despite tough measures initiated in the wake of Supreme Court directives, the ugly saga of ragging continues unabated. Nineteen students of BTech final year at country’s premier IT institute, the Indian Institute of Information Technology-Allahabad, have been charged with harassing juniors and fined Rs 50,000 each.

Interestingly, both the victims and the perpetrators are girls rather than boys who almost always hog the headlines in such cases.

Institute sources told TOI that a few girl students of BTech first year who live in the girls hostel at IIIT-A, were reportedly harassed by senior hostel girls on the night of July 19. The aggrieved students immediately brought the matter to the notice of warden Dr Shveta Singh who in turn apprised the senior authorities, including the director.
