Three students booked for ragging in Uttar Pradesh

Lucknow, Sep 14 (IANS) Three students of a government-run polytechnic institute were Tuesday booked for physically abusing and ragging two of their juniors on the campus in Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur district, police said.

Montu Singh and Sandeep Kumar - both first year students of Post Graduate Diploma in Computer Applications (PGDCA) course - were allegedly assaulted by three of their seniors - Raghvendra, Dhirendra and Vineet - in the Government Polytechnic Institute in Nawabganj town, a police official said.

“On the pretext of interacting with the freshers, the three senior students entered their hostel and started misbehaving with them. When the two juniors objected, the three started assaulting them with leather belts and even hit them with bricks,” he said.

“A case has been registered against the three who are absconding. The two junior students are being treated at a hospital. Both of them are out of danger,” the official added.

The institute’s principal D.D. Singh told IANS: “It was the institute’s staff who got the case registered against the three students. An enquiry has been initiated against them.”

“Strict action would be taken against the students for misbehaving with the two junior students,” he added.
