AHMEDABAD: The Youth Congress (YC) workers today allegedly ransacked office of the Mahavir Jain Boys Hostel in the Paldi area here following an incident of alleged ragging, police said here.
A group of 10-15 people from the YC entered the hostel premises shouted slogans against the warden, ransacked his office and broke some glass windows and furniture, they added. No arrests have been made in this regard and further investigation in the matter was on, police said.
Nirav Bakshi, president of the Youth Congress, Ahmedabad (west) told PTI that they were protesting against ragging of a student living in the hostel.
"We are against any kind of ragging in colleges and hostels. We cannot allow this in the land of Mahatma Gandhi. We lodged our protest and demanded action against the guilty as the warden had not taken any action," Bakshi added.
The victim Pinkal Shah a student of GLS BBA college was allegedly ragged by some senior students of L D Engineering college, who were living in the same hostel.
Shah was beaten up by a group of engineering students last night, following which he had complained to the hostel warden, they said.
He later registered a complaint with the Ellisbridge police station against the engineering students, police said, adding that investigation in the matter was on.
