7 law students suspended for ragging

Raipur, Sep 11: Seven students of the Hidayatullah National Law University (HNLU) located in New Raipur were suspended from University hostel and fined for ragging four of their juniors.
The four freshers pursuing BA LLB had lodged a complaint with Vice-Chancellor Prof Sukhpal Singh after they were allegedly abused and beaten up by the accused on Thursday.

Taking cognisance of the ragging complaint--reported for the first time since inception of the law University in 2003--an Anti-Ragging Committee yesterday found the seven students (all from 3rd semister) guilty of the charges, and recommended their immediate suspension from the hostel.

The committee further slapped a fine ranging from Rs 25,000 to Rs 30,000 on four of them considering the gravity of the crime.

According to Vice-Chancellor Prof Singh, all the seven students had also been barred from participating in any events and activities of the Varsity in and outside the state while pursuing the degree course.
