Ragging claims life of student

Tamluk (WB), Oct 9 (PTI) Unable to bear the humiliation of ragging, a student of a technical college in Howrah district committed suicide at his house here today.

Ayan Adak, a student of the pharmacy department of the Uluberia Calcutta Institute of Pharmaceuticals Technology, hanged himself from the ceiling of the cowshed adjacent to his house at Alinan village in East Midnapore district, the police said.

The traumatised boy was admitted to Uluberia hospital after he was subjected to repeated physical and mental abuse and returned home yesterday, the OC of Tamluk police station, Subhankar Dey, said.

Dey said this morning the student talked to his father about shifting to another college but an hour later he took his own life.

The police has sent the body for post-mortem.

It is shameful for our Law and Order. In India, such thing is occurs in everyday because there is no punishment. We are unfortunate to be Indians without backbones.
Unless criminals are punished strongly, it will continue and will cost many lives.
