Ramjas College on Thursday suspended a BSc student for allegedly ragging his classmate earlier this month. Principal Rajendra Prasad, on the recommendation of a sub-committee of the anti-ragging panel, has also banned the student's entry in the college.
According to the college order, the student will face suspension "till further orders". The next meeting of the anti-ragging committee is scheduled on September 27.
The ragging incident came to light on September 9 when Ritwiz Rai, a first-year student of BSc (Honours) physics, filed a complaint with the college authorities. He accused Rajiv Kumar, from the first-year batch of BSc (Honours) mathematics, of beating him up with the help of senior students.
Though Kumar is also a first year student, the principal forwarded the complaint to the anti-ragging committee as he has failed his examination twice. "So technically, Kumar is senior and he attacked Rai with the help of his third-year friends. In this context, it is a case of ragging," Prasad said.
"The incident took place in the first week of September. Rai was beaten up when he tried to stop a few seniors from ragging his friend near the college canteen. The CCTV footage shows that nine senior students along with Kumar had thrashed him. Rai's left eye is badly hurt," said Tanvir Aeijaz Alam, a member of the college anti-ragging committee. This is the first instance of ragging reported from a Delhi University institution in the new academic year.

Coimbatore, September 24: Six students of a private college on the city outskirts were today arrested on charges of ragging a first year student, who had to be hospitalised following the incident, police said today.
The student Muhammed Sadiq was asked by some seniors to remove his shirt and put their shirts on, but Sadiq refused following which they allegedly attacked him yesterday.
Sadiq was allegedly injured in the incident was admitted to a hospital, police said.
Based on a complaint filed by the family members of the victim, police arrested six second-year students.

DHARAMSALA: The ongoing trial in the Aman Kachru ragging case in the fast track court at Dharamsala hardly had any impact on students of a government school in Kangra district who assaulted a class VIII student when he refused to carry out their orders.
A case of ragging was registered against three students on Wednesday pertaining to the incident at government senior secondary school, Paprolain Baijnath sub-division of Kangra district.
The three accused allegedly beat a junior, Ankush Kumar, after he refused to leave the classroom when they ordered him. Following this, parents of the victim took up the matter with school authorities and principal Suman Katwal lodged the complaint with police.

Tiruchi Anna Varsity suspends students

TIRUCHI: The Anna University of Technology Tiruchi (AUT-T) placed 47 hostel students under suspension after they clashed among themselves in the hostel on Sunday night. The university had stuck the suspension order on the notice board on Tuesday and had sent all the suspended students out of the hostel.
Vice-chancellor P Devadas Manoharan was not available for comments but sources in the university said he had ordered for a probe into the incident. While the university is tight-lipped about the cause of the clash, students said that ragging was the root cause of the fracas. A student of the university said a few days back a second year student ragged his junior, who happened to be the brother of a final year student. The incident triggered a quarrel between final year and second year students.
Another incident occurred within the next few days when a final year student asked a second year student who was watching television in the hostel to reduce the TV volume. The latter refused resulting in another quarrel. These incidents had created friction among the students who used to exchange harsh words occasionally. On Sunday night yet another quarrel broke out between the students and a clash ensued. Hostel staff intervened and pacified the students. However a couple of hours later they began assaulting each other again, said a final year student.
A university staff said the students have been suspended to prevent escalation of tension. Once the enquiry is over further disciplinary action may be taken against the students found guilty, he said.

Report by Orissa Diary correspondent; Cuttack: The Biju Patnaik Technical University (BPUT) on Wednesday suspended five students of Piloo Mody College of Architecture for alleged involvement in ragging case and withdrew recognition of the college for the next academic year.
As per the information , on 7th August a second year B.Arch student Soubhagya Mishra alleged ragging by seniors belonging to fourth year of the college.A joint committee constituted by BPUT initiated probe into the matter and submitted its report following which the premier technical university took a serious note of it and suspended the students for two years. Besides, it withdrew recognition to the college for the academic session 2011-12.The students have been identified as Gourav Das Mohapatra, Devaditya Das, Aurojit Moitra, Anwesika Sahu and Pabitra Sahu.
These students had attacked Soubhagya with blades inflicting serious injuries to his neck. Meanwhile, the students, college authorities and OPECA have opposed the stringent action on the students and the college.

BHU suspends students for ragging

Four students of the Banaras Hindu University (BHU), arrested for allegedly assaulting and ragging a physically challenged boy in the campus, were on Saturday suspended from the varsity and asked to vacate the hostel, a senior official said here.
A show-cause notice has also been served to Prof G C R Jaiswal, the then administrative officer of I N Gurtu Hostel, where the incident took place, BHU Press Publication and Publicity (PPP)cell chairman Prof Rajesh Singh said.
The Anti Ragging Committee found six students guilty of ragging B.Com student Ajit Kumar Upadhyay last year.
Upadhayay, a resident of Bihar, was allegedly ragged by six students on October 13 last year. He was also assaulted and an MMS was also prepared by his seniors. There were also reports that a fight had broken out between Upadhayay and others over non-vegetarian food being served in the hostel mess.
While Mohit Shukla, Girijesh Tiwari (both students of B.Com final year), Anuj Lal (student of L.LB first year) and Ashish Gautam (MBA), were arrested on Thursday on a complaint filed by Upadhayay, two others Rajat Anand and Ragav Alok have completed their course and left the university campus. Efforts are on to nab the two.
All the accused have been suspended from their classes till the completion of the committee's enquiry. Meanwhile, taking the moral responsibility for the incident, Dean of Commerce department Prof Vishambhar Jha resigned from his post on Friday.

Kendrapara(Orissa): Authorities of the state-run Jawahar Navodyaya Vidyalaya punished a seventh standard student for ragging freshers, official sources said.
The student was debarred from attending classes or staying in the hostel for a fortnight after he was found guilty of locking junior students in a bathroom for six hours during the night.
The incident occurred on Monday night and came to light after the parents of the victims the drew the attention of the authorities, said Pravati Pradhan, JNV principal.
