HYDERABAD: The Moinabad police on Monday evening took two third year students of J B Institute of Engineering & Technology ( JBIET), Moinabad, into custody for allegedly ragging their junior.
According to the Moinabad police, D Ratnakar, 20, in his complaint, alleged that D Kiran Kumar, 23, and T Ramaswamy, 23, both third year computer science students, asked him to sing the nursery rhyme `Twinkle twinkle little star...' twice. Accordingly, he obeyed their order and rendered it. Eventually, they asked him to repeat the rhyme 10 times, to which he refused, Moinabad inspector G Shekar Goud said.
The duo later asked Ratnakar to read out Maths tables loudly. Accordingly, he repeated them twice. Later, the students asked him to explain how to wear inner wear, T-shirt and trousers by removing his clothes. He expressed his anguish and refused to comply their order as others were watching him, the inspector added.
"We had information about ragging and deployed our staff at bus stops near the college to observe students. Two policemen found a student weeping at a bus stop. Initially, he denied to give a reason after interrogation. However, he later broke down and narrated the ragging incident. We caught the erring students and took them into custody," Goud said.
A case under section 4 of the AP Prohibition of Ragging Act, 1997, was filed against the two students, the inspector added.
