CHENNAI: A first-year MBBS student from Tagore Medical College was found hanging from a tree near Thalambur in Kanchipuram district on Saturday. His parents said he might have committed suicide because he was ragged by his seniors.

The police said 19-year-old S Naveen from Salem district joined the college in July. Naveen stayed with two senior students in the hostel. He often had arguments with them, the police said. He was reported missing from the hostel around 5am on August 25. The warden filed a complaint in the Thalambur police station. On Saturday, the police found him hanging from a tree beside a lake near Ponnmar around 7pm.

His parents say Navin was being ragged by his seniors. "He was a brilliant student. We strongly believe that he committed suicide because he was ragged. He complained to us many times that his seniors have been ragging him," said his father M Selvaraj.
