TIRUMALA: A 13-year old student from Hyderabad was allegedly sexually harassed by three of his seniors at Sri Venkateswara Veda Patashala in Dharmagiri on the Tirumala Hills.
Parents of the boy lodged a complaint with the Two Town Police Station here on Wednesday.
They had taken the matter to the notice of Veda Patashala principal Ramamurthy and Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) Executive Officer IYR Krishna Rao. “But no action has been initiated against the culprits,” they said.
Acting on their complaint, police booked a case under Section 377 of the IPC and also under the Ragging (prevention) Act.
“The incident seems to have happened 20 days back. We are investigating,” said sub-inspector Amarnath.
The TTD confirmed the incident but claimed that an inquiry was conducted and the accused given TCs.
It further said it had assured the boy’s parents that since the offenders had been expelled, they could readmit their son in the school and promised help in the continuance of his education at the Veda Patashala. However, the parents had refused its offer.
TTD executive engineer RSSUR Subramanyam has been deputed as administrative officer to the Veda Patashala.
The school staff have also been directed to keep a night-long vigil with each looking after 12 boys.
