Govt polytechnic expels 2 students for ragging

LUCKNOW: The Government Polytechnic on Monday expelled two students for their alleged involvement in ragging that took place late on Sunday night. A non-criminal report (NCR) had already been lodged against the two and efforts are on to arrest them.

As per the college authorities, they expelled Sandeep Vishwakarma and Atul Kumar Yadav, both of whom failed to clear their first year examinations. They reportedly beat a first year architectural engineering student Balram Shukla on Sunday night. "These students though failed in the first year still consider themselves as senior students. We found that it was their routine to rag and beat up the first year students," said a student, who too has faced similar problems in the hostel.

Balram and his fellow mates were beaten badly by some failed first year students for not cleaning up the ground properly. The junior students

were given the responsibility to clean the ground, so that the annual sports meet could be organised on February 2. Intervening in their work, Sandeep and Atul began finding faults and asked the juniors to sweep the ground in a proper manner. The juniors claimed that they were continuously harassed by the seniors, and on raising their voice, the two students beat them up. Balram with others was then ragged. The victim said that when he was not able to find any way out, he went to the Ghazipur police station, and reported the matter.

Balram on Saturday evening, had a heated argument with some suspended students. They then took the revenge in this way. According to the college authorities, it was not a case of ragging, but a clash among two groups. "It cannot be termed as ragging. Prima facie, it appears to be a group clash. Investigation is going on, and strict action will be taken against the guilty," said principal, KM Gupta.

It is to be mentioned that this is the second case of ragging reported in the college within two months.
