"Anti-Ragging: Awareness, Action Plan and Technical Solution”

December 31, 2010
SWI Auditorium, 2nd Floor, Shangri – La, Eros Corporate Tower
New Delhi

The demographic dividend of India lies in its youth which is reported to outlive that of China, making India the most powerful prosperous country in the world. However, we are not encashing this appropriately, instead we find our best minds, humiliated, mistreated and crushed by senseless actions in the garb of ragging which may scar them for life.

Recently, with the sheer number of incidences and awareness spread resulting in new laws being enacted, we find that for the first time there is a turning of the tide against ragging.

Security Watch India (SWI) is proud to introduce an emergency alarm system which may help prevent, contain, and possibly save people from the consequence from this mindless menace.

EyeWatch, this emergency alarm system is expected to give real time direct and instant coverage of any untoward incident faced by the students, including visual and audio proof through his/her mobile phone. It is hoped that this will help not only in curbing this menace but also give proof to the various agencies to take suitable action against perpetrator under the new law.

With the help of those who have spear headed this movement, SWI is very pleased to present the preview of movie “Hostel”, a film on ragging, directed by Mr. Manish Gupta, at our round table discussion - "Fight for Life, Right for Life - Anti-Ragging: Awareness, Action Plan and Technical Solution” on December 31, 2010 between 11:00 am to 2:00pm at 2nd Floor, Shangri – La, Eros Corporate Tower, Connaught Place, New Delhi.

K’pada College +2 students allege ragging by seniors

RAJESH BEHERA | Kendrapada

Once again, the Kendrapada Autonomous College, one of the prime educational institutions has come to the news for the wrong reasons. This time, it has come to the limelight after some junior students alleged ragging by their seniors.

According to sources, seven second year students of + 2 commerce have alleged ragging by the + 3 students at NC Hostel of the college. They have alleged to have been misbehaved, forced to kneel down and beaten by their seniors.

On Tuesday, the victimised students along with their guardians met the college Principal and brought the matter to his notice. When contacted, Principal Prafulla Mishra stated that as per the preliminary findings it has found that some students of +3 commerce Second part misbehaved , assaulted and forced about seven students of + 2 commerce to kneel down on the floor on Monday night at the hostel after an altercation over passing of comments between them.

“Meanwhile, I have directed the hostel superintendent Manmoth Nayakto conduct an inquiry into the matter and to submit a detailed report within 24 hours. If the seniors are found guilty in the alleged matter, stern action will be taken against them,” said the Principal.

Row over hostel ragging

Patna, Dec. 14: A day after students owing allegiance to Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) created ruckus, there was palpable tension on the campus over an incident of ragging at Patna University New Hostel.

A source said senior boarders of the hostel assaulted fellow students when they protested an incident of ragging.

Rahul Kumar and Prashant Kumar — both third year BBA students — were allegedly beaten up on Monday night because they had dared to protest an incident of ragging.

Rahul sustained injuries on his ear and Prashant on his hand and leg. Both of them refused to comment on the incident.

The intervention of the senior students had led to a compromise, they said.

The university, however, is taking a serious view of the incident.

A source said university authorities are planning to crack down on such incidents that not only affect the reputation of the university but also endanger the safety of students.

New Hostel superintendent V.K. Das has sought a detailed report of the incident.

Patna University disciplinary committee is also planning to deal seriously with the incident.

Randhir Kumar Singh, a teacher of Patna College and a member of the disciplinary committee, said: “A meeting of the disciplinary committee was convened in the office of the principal of Patna College. Members of the committee have decided to take strong steps to punish the guilty.”

“Both senior and junior students have been asked to give in writing why disciplinary action should not be taken against them. They have to submit their replies by 11am on December 20,” said Singh.

Sources said the incident on Monday was in retaliation to a protest lodged by Rahul and Prashant on Sunday, when some senior boarders at the hostel ragged some juniors. The two of them had tried to stop the seniors but in vain.

A junior student informed the Pirbhore police about the incident.

Though no formal complaint was lodged, the police summoned the senior students to warn them.

On Monday, the senior students were waiting to settle scores with Rahul and Prashant, as they believed the junior students had informed the police about the incident on their behest.

An altercation ensued between the duo and the other students and they soon came down to exchanging blows. Rahul and Prashant were injured in the scuffle.

Tanveer, an NCP student leader, said: “This is a very serious incident and efforts are being made to play it down.”

A source said some senior students had ragged the juniors on Sunday by asking them to run around the hostel campus.

Harihar Kumar, a student of Hindi (honours) fainted in the course but the seniors did not stop ragging.

A junior student said he had informed the college authorities about the incidents of ragging but no action had been taken.

Yuvraj Kumar, a resident of Minto Hostel, said: “Incidents like this happen all the time but no complaints are lodged. Such incidents also take place in Jackson Hostel.”

Student powers

The popular item song of Munni Badnaam Hui from Dabangg had spelt trouble for many a munni (girl) in a prestigious school in the Chhattisgarh capital. School authorities were stunned recently when a group of girls came up on the stage soon after morning assembly and started performing the suggestive song. Not unexpectedly, the performers were suspended for the day. Later, it transpired that these students were forced to perform the song-and-dance sequence under pressure from senior students. But no senior student was suspended for ragging. The reason: they come from politically powerful and well-connected people in the state. That̢۪s no surprise since the schools was originally established to educate princes and princesses.

14-year-old reunited with parents after he fled from home

Published: Monday, Dec 13, 2010, 3:44 IST

Fed up with the bad habits and ragging by the peers at his school, a 14-year-old son of a builder in Nashik took a train and left the city on Thursday morning, after stealing about Rs8,500 and his cousin’s passport from his home.

The boy was found loitering at Dadar station in RSP (Road Safety Patrol) uniform with a school bag by the government railway police around 2pm and brought to Dadar railway police station.

His parents were informed who then reached the police station on Thursday night and took him home.

“We contacted his parents to inform them that he had been found safe. They thought he was in school,” said Shinde.

On being questioned by the police, he introduced himself as Prakash Bhosale (name changed to protect identity), the elder son of a local builder in Nashik. He said he was in Std IX in Maratha Vidhyalaya at Panchvati in Nashik.

“While checking his school bag, the police found his Nashik address and residential telephone number. Rs8,500 and his cousin’s passport, which he had stolen, were also found,” said senior inspector Shivaji Shinde of Dadar railway police station.

The boy, who secured 70% marks in Std VIII, said he desperately wanted to leave the school as all his classmates smoked, chewed paan masala and gutka by stealing valuables of other students and ragging them.

He said that he wanted to join Bhosale Military School at Nashik but never told about his wish to his parents.
The boy reportedly left home for school at 7am but instead roamed in Nashik for about three hours. Then he came to Nashik Road station, bought a ticket for Mumbai and boarded the Mumbai-bound Varanasi Express at around 11am.

Ragging charge on pvt college trio

TNN, Dec 12, 2010, 04.07am IST

BARASAT: After the ragging incident in Durgapur, in which a first-year engineering student was stripped and photographed by three female seniors at the National Power Training Institute, another ragging allegation has surfaced on a college campus, this time in Barasat, North 24-Parganas. This time, a complaint has been lodged against three private engineering college students.

Subhankar Saha, a 22-year-old third-year engineering student of Adamas Institute of Technology, fell ill on Saturday morning after he was allegedly beaten up and subjected to mental torture by the three accused classmates on Friday night. The boy's father, Bablu Das, has filed a police complaint against three of Subhankar's classmates, alleging that they had tortured him physically and mentally for months, due to which Subhankar fell ill.

Subhankar, who hails from Jadavpur, on the southern fringes of the city, has been living in a hired accommodation in Barasat's Sainiknagar for the past three years, since he started studying in the institute. Three classmates Anup Sharma, Sumit Sur and Subrata Das were also staying with him.

According to the complaint lodged by Bablu, his son's room-mates habitually misbehaved with Subhankar, beat him up and mentally tortured him. Though Subhankar reportedly bore the humiliation stoically, matters turned extreme on Friday night as he was allegedly beaten up. After he fell ill, he revealed his ordeal to his father, leading to the police complaint.

The students were attending the semester examinations at the institute. Early on Saturday, Subhankar was rushed to Barasat district hospital by the three room-mates. On hearing the news, Subhankar's parents rushed to the hospital and learnt about the torture. Though Subhankar attended the semester examination after a check-up, his father filed the complaint on Saturday evening.

Police interrogated the three accused students following the complaint. They claimed that Subhankar had become depressed after reportedly faring poorly in the examination, held on December 7. On Friday night, an altercation happened between them after Subhankar allegedly started verbally attacking them over a issue, claimed the accused students.

Police said they were probing the matter.

Hostel- A Film on Ragging

Hostel, a bollywood film on ragging is releasing on December 31st, 2010. The film is perhaps the first commercial bollywood film based on the issue of ragging in college hostels.

After Munnabhai MBBS and 3 Idiots glorified ragging by showing its funnier side, this film is claiming to show the darker side of the ragging menace. However CURE is yet to watch 'Hostel' and judge how successful the film has been in showing the real life ragging on reel.

We wish the director of the film and his team all the very best and hope the film will be able to portray ragging in its real sense.

For more details about the film and to watch its trailer, please visit the website http://www.hostel.in.com/

Engineering student alleges ragging

New Delhi, December 12, 2010

The ugly head of ragging reared its head once again when a first-year engineering student complained that his seniors forcibly cut his hair. Arjun Singh, a student of Noida Institute of Engineering & Technology, has lodged an FIR at the Kasna police station, alleging that his senior Sumit Arora, along with two others, tried to rag him at the canteen a week ago. When Singh refused to entertain their request, they forcibly cut his hair. He then informed the college management. Fed up with no action, Singh filed a police complaint on Saturday. He approached the deputy superintendent of police.
"I have ordered filing of an FIR against the accused," said Rahul Kumar, deputy superintendent of police.

The college authorities, however, denied the allegation of not taking any action. "On getting a complaint from the student last week, we had formed an inquiry committee to investigate the matter. Our initial investigations have revealed that the incident did not take place at the college campus. However, the inquiry committee is yet to submit the report," said a college official.

"We will inquire into the recent NIET ragging matter. Past experiences have showed that in the event of ragging, colleges disown it, claiming that the incident occurred outside the campus. Colleges have been directed to provide hostel accommodation to all outstation students. If they are unable to provide hostel, then their anti-ragging squads are expected to keep a tab on students residing outside the campus and prevent ragging," said Pushyapati Saxena, registrar of Mahamaya Technical University.

In the past two years, several cases of ragging have been reported from various colleges.

However, only less than one percent of the cases are being reported, as freshers are too scared to report the matter.

DESAM against student death case

Imphal, December 07 2010: The Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) in a press release asked the students and parents who are trying to put curtain over the issue of ragging in Jawaharlal Navodaya, Khumbong.

The release said that DESAM while investigating the issue came to know that some senior students are indulging in forceful homo sexual activities to some junior students against their consent.

The matter came to light when teachers of the vidyalaya found one Nanao (not real name) of Class VI in a very desperate state.

When enquired he told that one Pangambam Nelson s/o P Olen of Kongba Kshetri Leikai who is studying in class XI forcibly did homo sexual activity to him without his consent.

When House Master and some teachers advised the accused students, the students raised against the teachers and school authorities and made it a major issue.

Moreover parents of the students are also backing their children.

In relation with this matter, Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti, Shillong also terminated two teachers and restricted three teachers from entering the school campus.

If such situation begins to spread throughout the state, there will be no one in the state to take up the profession of teacher.

Regarding the need for timely intervention DESAM asked those parents who are backing their children to retreat.

Harassed student attempts suicide

Chandigarh, Dec 6, DHNS:

A second year student of a polytechnic college in Haryana attempted suicide by consuming poison after he was allegedly harassed by his seniors. Although Jagtar Singh, the victim, is said to be out of danger, the incident tends to expose the frail system to check ragging activities in the college.

Singh is a student of Guru Nanak Polytechnic College at Tohana in Haryana. His brother Jaswinder Singh has blamed the college management for shielding the accused students. He has also accused the college of ignoring complaints made by Singh in this regard.

Suicide spree in city, 3 more end lives

November 28th, 2010

Nov. 27: A day after two techies were found hanging, three people, including a 17-year-old student, took the extreme step at various city police station limits, since Friday night. In the first incident, Uma Shankar, 17, a student, committed suicide by consuming poison. He died later in Victoria hospital on Saturday.
According to Kalasipalya police, he had consumed the poison at his hostel near City Market. After learning about the incident, his hostel-mates rushed him to Victoria, where he died after the medication failed to improve his condition.
“The deceased was a resident of Kaggadasapura and student of APS College in Bengaluru,” said a police officer. Even as the police is still investigating the reasons behind the suicide, rumours were making the rounds in the hostel that Uma Shankar, suffering from behavioural problems, could have been ‘ragged’ by his seniors at the hostel.
The other version is that his father was
summoned recently by the college authorities following several complaints of bunking and misconduct along with drinking and other bad habits, which could have forced him to take the extreme step out of humiliation.
When hostel authorities were contacted, they denied the allegations of ragging, stating that the hostel had nothing to do with the incident. Significantly, the hostel warden and a few of Uma Shankar’s seniors are absconding after the incident came to light. The police is reportedly investigating this development, said sources.
In another incident reported in Kothanur police station limits, a 27-year-old girl and her 70-year-old father drowned in a well near Nagenahalli. According to a police officer, Shilpa, who had returned from her husband’s place, jumped into the well on Friday night.
Later Anjanappa, in an attempt to rescue his daughter, also drowned. The bodies were fished out on Saturday morning. It is suspected that Shilpa ended her life following a bitter quarrel with her husband.
The next case was that of another married woman, who committed suicide following dowry harassment in Nandini Layout police station limits. Shilpa, 24, married to Manjunath for two years, was found hanging in her residence located on 15th Main in Nandini Layout. It is alleged that the husband, who was given Rs 1 lakh along with 100 gms of gold as dowry, was repeatedly demanding more. The police is investigating the matter.

Student assaulted by seniors in Uttar Pradesh polytechnic

2010-11-26 12:10:00

Lucknow, Nov 26 (IANS) A first year engineering student of a government-run polytechnic here was allegedly assaulted by a group of senior students on the institute's campus after he refused to bow his head before them, police said Friday.

Navneet Gaur, the student of Hewett Polytechnic, was Thursday evening roughed up by around 10 of his seniors for not following their directions.

Gaur, who after the incident preferred leaving his hostel room on the campus, went to his relatives in Gomti Nagar area here. They helped him file a ragging complaint with the police against the senior students.

'The student said the seniors who had their faces covered intercepted him when he was going to his hostel room. They then directed him to bow before them and proceed towards the hostel in the same position,' police inspector D.P. Singh told reporters.

'As Gaur objected, the seniors started punching and kicking him. They even crushed his spectacles and threatened him with dire consequences if he told the institute's authorities about the incident,' he added.

According to the police, Gaur has identified two of the seniors by their voice and physical appearance.

'He is not able to tell their names. He identifies them by their faces. According to him, both the students are in second year of engineering and assaulted him with their other batchmates,' Singh said.

'We have initiated an enquiry into the matter along with the institute's officials. Stern action will be taken against all those who assaulted Gaur,' he added.

Team to probe ragging at BAU

Ranchi, Nov. 22: A four-member probe team was constituted by Birsa Agriculture University (BAU) today following complaints of ragging of a first year forestry student at the girls’ hostel.

The victim Jyoti Kumari, was rushed to Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences yesterday evening after she complained of restlessness and breathing difficulty following alleged ragging at the hostel

“The girl had gone home and arrived at the hostel apparently tired. In the evening, she complained of uneasiness and was sent to RIMS for medical check-up. After initial check up, she was brought back. There was no ragging,” warden Rakesh Saxena said.

“A team comprising three deputy wardens of the hostels and a teacher has been set up to enquire into the incident. The committee will submit its report by 4pm tomorrow. Appropriate action would be taken once we receive the report,” Saxena added.

However teachers and students alike, speaking on condition of anonymity said ragging was an annual feature at BAU that was never reported.

In the case of Jyoti Kumari, they conceded that an ‘introductory session’ was held at the hostel.

In course of the session, the petrified girl had apparently collapsed. However students vouched that no physical torture had ever been inflicted on the girl.

Jyoti Kumari declined to speak to the media.

The girl’s parents had also informed the local police about the incident. Kanke police officer in charge, Mithilesh Kumar, said that they had visited the campus late in the evening yesterday and added that investigations were on.

Agri students allege ragging by seniors

Vishwas Kothari, TNN, Nov 24, 2010, 03.28am IST

PUNE: One of the oldest institutions for agricultural studies, the College of Agriculture, Pune (CoAP) was at the centre of a row over alleged ragging of four first-year BSc (Agri) course students by their seniors studying in the second year of agriculture as well as horticulture degree courses.

The college has independent hostel blocks for junior and senior students, which are located a stone's throw from each other and near the main administrative block. The four complainants hail from Jalna, Beed and Washim districts, while the nine seniors named by them in the complaint also hail from the Marathwada region.

Although the students allege that they were being 'ragged' by the seniors for almost a month-and-a-half, the incident came to light only around 10.30 pm on Monday when one of the victims called his uncle on the phone and told him about the ragging.

The uncle, along with a politically-affiliated students' union activist, rushed to the hostel premises to check out the matter. Sensing trouble, the seniors started running away from the spot. One of them was apprehended by the students and handed over to the college authorities.

The drama, which stretched well past midnight, had the sprawling college campus abuzz, with the police moving to the site to ensure that there was no trouble. The college's associate dean and principal, B R Ulmek, had reached the hostel block by this time.

The CoAP has since set up a multi-member committee, headed by G B Gutal, professor of agriculture engineering, who is also vice-president of the college's students' council, to probe the incident and furnish a report. Officiating rector for the boys hostel R M Naik, chief counsellor P R Surve, hostel monitor S H Mane and student welfare officer T S Bhondwe are on the seven-member probe panel.

Late on Tuesday afternoon, all members of the probe committee met in the ante chamber of Ulmek's office to conduct the inquiry proceedings, including recording the statements of the four juniors and the nine seniors, who have been named in the complaint.

Incidentally, practical examinations were being held on Tuesday for the second-year degree course students. The authorities had to wait for them to get over before starting the inquiry proceedings.

Ulmek told TOI, "We are strictly going by the process laid down by the Maharashtra Council for Agriculture Education and Research (MCAER) as well as the University Grants Commission (UGC) and the Maharashtra Prohibition of Ragging Act, to ascertain facts and will take action based on the outcome of the ongoing inquiry. The prospect of lodging a police complaint depends on what the inquiry panel submits."

According to rector Naik, "The four junior students have given written statements naming nine second-year students from the agriculture and horticulture degree courses (all residing at the senior's hostel) for ragging them on one pretext or the other over the last one-and-a-half months.

"The complainants have stated that the seniors would force them to complete their academic tasks such as practical journals; browbeat them in different ways like making them stand with their heads hung low for hours, slapping them and using abusive language," added Naik.

The incident on Monday night seems to have been the outcome of such browbeating. Some seniors entered the hostel block by using the drainage pipe at the rear to climb up and move into the first floor through the windows, which have no grills. "As a usual practice, we close the main entrance of the juniors hostel block at 9 pm every day," said Naik.

Once inside, the seniors started asking the juniors to complete their practical journals, which the latter refused to do. Instead, one of the juniors got in touch with his uncle.

Students at the juniors hostel said the college authorities had barricaded the windows with tin sheets on Tuesday, following the incident. The terrace door, which would otherwise remain open, had also been locked.

Beaten, students attempt suicide

Nov. 19: Two engineering students apparently attempted suicide after being allegedly tortured by seniors, it emerged today.

Satarupa Das, a first-year student of Durgapur’s National Power Training Institute, slit her left wrist on Monday after being allegedly beaten up by three seniors. Ujjwal Kumar, a first-year student of Birbhum’s Mallabhum Institute of Technology, jumped off the second-floor roof of his hostel last night after he was allegedly thrashed by a senior.

In the first case, the three seniors have been asked to vacate the hostel, the disciplinary action coming after Satarupa’s father complained to the institute’s authorities that she had been ragged. But it is still not clear if Ujjwal, who is in hospital in critical condition, had been ragged as no complaint has been lodged so far.

On November 15, final-year BTech students Debalina Haldar, Subhoshree Das and Arpita De had handed Satarupa, 20, a “very tough” questionnaire on power engineering at the hostel. “When she failed to answer some of them, the trio abused her and beat her up with a plastic ruler,” said M. Arunachalam, the principal director of the institute.

“The next morning, Satarupa was found in her hostel room with her left wrist slit. We took her to a nursing home,” Arunachalam said.

A doctor at the nursing home said Satarupa had a deep cut on her wrist. “Some veins and arteries were severely damaged. She was discharged on Wednesday after surgery,” the doctor said.

The girl’s father, Samir Das, lodged a complaint of ragging with the institute’s authorities last evening. Das owns a hosiery shop in Calcutta. “We have received the complaint by the girl’s father. We are looking into it. We have asked the three accused students to vacate the hostel,” Arunachalam said.

Asked why the institute had not yet lodged a police complaint, he said: “Our anti-ragging committee has started an inquiry.”

In Ujjwal’s case, however, the authorities of Mallabhum Institute of Technology said they were not certain whether he had been ragged. But college source said Ujjwal, a computer engineering student, was “suffering from depression” after being “beaten up twice” by third-year student Gaurav Kumar since Tuesday.

Principal Saran Kumar Sanyal said Ujjwal, 18, who hails from Bihar’s Gaya, “was under mental pressure after being constantly threatened by the third-year student”.

“Around 11 last night, the hostel watchman heard a thud. When he rushed to the hostel building, he saw Ujjwal lying in a pool of blood. I think the boy jumped off the hostel roof after dinner,” Sanyal said.

Ujjwal was taken to Bishnupur subdivisional hospital. He has suffered severe head injuries, the principal said.

Sanyal said Ujjwal had been shifted to Mission Hospital in Durgapur. Ujjwal’s uncle Dindayal Kumar said his nephew was still unconscious.

Dibojyoti Das, the subdivisional police officer of Bishnupur, said no complaint had been lodged so far.

2 students held for ragging junior

TNN, Nov 9, 2010, 05.26am IST

HYDERABAD: The Moinabad police on Monday evening took two third year students of J B Institute of Engineering & Technology ( JBIET), Moinabad, into custody for allegedly ragging their junior.

According to the Moinabad police, D Ratnakar, 20, in his complaint, alleged that D Kiran Kumar, 23, and T Ramaswamy, 23, both third year computer science students, asked him to sing the nursery rhyme `Twinkle twinkle little star...' twice. Accordingly, he obeyed their order and rendered it. Eventually, they asked him to repeat the rhyme 10 times, to which he refused, Moinabad inspector G Shekar Goud said.

The duo later asked Ratnakar to read out Maths tables loudly. Accordingly, he repeated them twice. Later, the students asked him to explain how to wear inner wear, T-shirt and trousers by removing his clothes. He expressed his anguish and refused to comply their order as others were watching him, the inspector added.

"We had information about ragging and deployed our staff at bus stops near the college to observe students. Two policemen found a student weeping at a bus stop. Initially, he denied to give a reason after interrogation. However, he later broke down and narrated the ragging incident. We caught the erring students and took them into custody," Goud said.

A case under section 4 of the AP Prohibition of Ragging Act, 1997, was filed against the two students, the inspector added.

Ragging at Fakir Mohan University

Friday, November 05, 2010

Balasore: Two students of the Environmental Science department of the Fakir Mohan University were allegedly thrashed by the senior students.

Sources said that following the incident, the university authorities have let the victims out of the campus with the help of police who are now staying in a lodge.

Contacted, Vice Chancellor Sukantipriya Patnaik said that he received the compliant on Wednesday and has entrusted the PG Council chairman to look into the matter.

However, PG Council chairman Amarendra Naryan Mishra said that the incident was a fallout of a petty issue and a committee has been formed and after the Diwali vacation to sort out the matter.

According to sources, Amiya Ranjan Sahu, a student of first year Environmental Science, was bashed up by a group of seniors when he came out in support of one of his batch-mate Gangadhar Patnaik.

Patnaik was allegedly ragged by the seniors on Monday evening near the dinning hall for no reason.

I had resisted when Patnaik was ragged. Later on, they came to my room and driving all other roommates out, they showered blows and punches on me putting off the light. They had been ragging us for quite some time and we had avoided reporting the matter to our warden, Sahu informed.

Following the incident in the evening, some seniors reported the matter to the authorities, but the latter asked the police personnel to take the victims out of the campus in order to avoid further tension.

They were reportedly taken away by the police and left near the bus stand.

Both the students, stated to be of Ganjam, took shelter in a lodge at Sahadevkhunta area after wandering in the night and taking shelter in the railway station.

We were asked to leave the students at the bus stand by the university authorities, informed Remuna IIC A Tirkey.

On the other hand, the university authorities, denying allegations, maintained that they let the two students out of the varsity premises in a police van.
